The Production Roaster position at Ceremony Coffee Roasters is a full-time, salaried position with benefits: health/dental/vision subsidy, paid vacation, holidays and sick leave, 401k w/match, potential for profit-sharing annually, and opportunities for travel and career advancement.

Job Description

As the Production Roaster, you will work closely with the Head Roaster to ensure the execution of our high standards of roast consistency and excellence in flavor development. This includes production roasting, weighing and blending coffees, roaster maintenance, quality control, inventory, communication, and teamwork. This position will be trained by and report to the Head Roaster.


  • Roasting – Daily roasting for order fulfilment; ensure quality and consistency of roast development on our two roasting machines – a 25 lb. San Franciscan and a 75 lb. Loring; sustain strong attention to detail with every roast
  • Quality Control – Participate in production cupping evaluation and documentation to ensure roast quality; monitor green coffee for stability and quality; maintain blend standards
  • Maintenance – Contribute to routine cleaning and maintenance of roasting and production equipment; establish a thorough working knowledge of all systems; maintain a tidy work area
  • Teamwork – Maintain a high standard of professionalism and communication with the production team and interdepartmentally; contribute constructively to company-wide and departmental meetings, provide positive support for the Head Roaster and Warehouse team
  • Inventory – Help to maintain logs of green coffee and blend percentages
  • Culture – Contribute to a coffee-forward culture by engaging co-workers and guests with kindness, knowledge, and enthusiasm


  • HS Graduate or equivalent; strong learner
  • Some production roasting experience; 2 years of general Specialty coffee experience
  • Developing sensory evaluation and cupping/SCA scoresheet skills
  • Sincere interest and dedication toward improving sensory and roasting skills
  • Good organizational skills, problem solving ability, and intuitive resourcefulness
  • Strong initiative and self-management skills, willing to take direction
  • Working knowledge of Cropster a plus
  • Competence with MS Office applications including Excel and Word
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time, ~8 hours each work day
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. or more and perform repetitive, range-of-motion activities
