Roast Profile 1 - Light
tea-like and elegant
Soft, delicate floral notes with melon sweetness and acidity
Burundi is a densely populated, landlocked nation in East Africa, bordered by Tanzania, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Lake Tanganyika (the second largest freshwater lake in the world and the deepest in Africa). Still considered an up-and-coming coffee producing country, Burundi produces lovely and delicate coffees and, in the province of Ngozi, coffee is grown in full sun and undergoes a double fermentation process. The coffee is then dried for 20-25 days on traditional African raised beds.
Our importing partners for this coffee write, "Operating in Burundi involves navigating extreme challenges. It remains among the world's poorest nations, with a per capita GDP often estimated between 10 and 20 USD. This poverty is both a cause and a result of systemic issues, including food insecurity, ethnic conflict, fuel shortages, and political instability. Such conditions make it difficult to establish the smooth, trust-based systems required for long-term trade." In the face of these challenges, the coffee producers of Burundi are cultivating beautiful, high-quality coffees that we are honored to roast here at Ceremony.
