a vibrant and juicy cup from Kenya

delicious and bright!

If you are a longtime fan of Ceremony, you may remember a Kenyan coffee from this region a few years ago. This time we are featuring Gondo AB lot. AB refers to the bean size, 15/16; meaning that when sorted, the beans will pass through a size 16 screen, but not a size 15 screen. If you are familiar with the AA size (big boys!), AB is a bit smaller. This coffee is grown at 1900 MASL in a region near Mount Kenya, rich with native flora and fauna. At present, over 700 producers bring their coffee to the Gondo coffee factory, where ripe cherries are pulped and wet-processed before being sun dried in parchment.

Coffee producers in this region work very small parcels of land, averaging around 1 to 2 hectares. Adults work the farms and children go to school, which in this region costs money and thus limits opportunities in this lower income area. Without more opportunity for youth, many coffee producers worry coffee farming will fade from this region. Some producers, however, remain steadfast in their hope that coffee can provide opportunities for future generations in this area.

This coffee presents a classic Kenyan flavor profile: vibrant, full, and with agave-like sweetness. We're enjoying this coffee brewed at a 1:16 coffee to (filtered) water ratio to capture notes of limeade and acidity that reminds us of fresh pineapple.

Note: Our coffees taste their best at least 10 days off roast.

Green

Fresh, enzymatic green coffees lead with sweetly tart and herbacious flavors similar to granny smith apples, key limes, and sage.
